Denison Texas History

Right here in Denison, Texas, is a historic place and relic that will impress any prospective history professor, but it is in the heart of one of the most historic cities in the state, the birthplace of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The birthplace was purchased by the city after his election as president and is now maintained as the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site, which houses a number of historic sites and relics. It was purchased in 1953, just months after the president's election, and is now considered the state's birthplace and historic site.

The museum is located in the historic Katy Depot, which was the passenger station and operating center of the MKT until the merger with Union Pacific in 1988. Dension is one of the oldest railroads in the United States, first connected in 1873 and completed in 1901 between Denison and Sherman. Katy Depot was formerly home to the US Army Corps of Engineers' Katy Station, the first station in Texas.

The Adickes sold the statues to the city of Denison and also in South Dakota and Virginia, which were closed. The Wilderness Railway was founded by the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway (MKT), known as Katy, and developed by Denison. A new urban area has been selected for the new station on the site of the former Katy station, now the Katy depot.

Eisenhower, purchased by his mother, who was very concerned about preserving the historic sites. In 1952 Eisenhower himself visited his birthplace and returned to the trail of the presidential campaign, but there is no president of the Denison Historical Society.

Denison opened the first independent school on February 6, 1873, and the crossing to the Red River was built. In 1872, the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad decided to open a new city south of the Red River and extend their East-West line because Sherman did not offer them a bonus. Residents of Red River City began to move into the new neighborhood, lured by the Houston, Texas and Central.

A small town of tents and shacks called Red River City was born, and it was located south of what Denison, Texas, was to become.
